U.S. Senate ready to impose secondary sanctions depending on ceasefire plan
The decision on the bill on secondary sanctions against Russia will depend on the proposals to end the war in Ukraine, which Russia will present in the near future.
This was stated by Senator Lindsey Graham in an open letter to Vladimir Putin, which is published by The Wall Street Journal.
“The Senate is ready for any development. I have been coordinating work on the bill on sanctions against Russia since its inception.
The bill would isolate Russia from trade by imposing 500 percent duties on energy supplies to any country that buys them. Those who support the barbaric invasion should realize the full consequences. If China or India stop buying cheap oil, Putin’s war machine will grind to a halt. The sanctions bill was supported by 82 senators (out of 100).
As Senator Thune said last week, if Putin continues to play games, the Senate will take action. President Trump has asked Vladimir Putin to provide a document outlining the requirements for a ceasefire to remove obstacles to peace. Depending on Russia’s response, we will know what course to take,” Graham said.
